Tee Off

Welcome to OUR nightmare. A really long par 4 with out-of-bounds on the right and a large penalty area on the left, as well as half the fairway is steeply uphill, oh and did we mention the fairway slants from right to left quite severely. Now for your tee shot, you want to aim for the right upper part of the fairway, almost in the rough. Aiming in the middle could result in your ball feeding down into the rough or penalty area, which depending how far you've hit your drive, could be blocked by a huge tree at the 100 meter mark. A left of middle drive could see you looking for your ball in the penalty area. So keep it right and aim left of the large singular tree in the distance. Long had the reputation as being one of the toughest stroke ones holes in KZN

Approach

Your approach to this elevated green with a false front is not an easy achievement. For regular golfers you have anything from a 5 iron to a 3 metal into this green BUT you also have out-of-bounds on the right, penalty area on the left and a well placed bunker on either side of the fairway about 30 meters short of the green. Don't forget, if you are in the fairway, the ball is above your feet. Once again, the fairway slopes from right to left and goes up in gradient. Your best approach is to aim for the right of the green in the hope your ball will funnel back towards the hole. Many players will be happy with their approach to the green being 80 meters or so out. Maybe good idea to club up an extra club with you third. Really difficult hole.

The Green

Lots of small bumps and slopes on this green, which can result in a very fast putt if you putting from the back of the green and the pin is 4 meters or so from the back. Green keeper normally takes pity on us mere mortals and makes the pin placements accessible. Be happy to take one over and move on because a par is a bonus.
